A journey through the world in 18 tea moments<\/span><\/h3>\n

My family comes from Hong Kong, so tea is basically in my DNA. No day passes that I don\u2019t drink tea. Regardless of time of day or season \u2013 whether alone or with friends, at home or traveling, in a dry desert or in a green national park.<\/span><\/p>\n

  • Hong Kong:<\/span> Tea with my family<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Beijing, China (study abroad<\/span>):<\/span> Accompanied by jazz music at my favorite caf\u00e9 ,Sculpting in Time, operated by a film director and his wife. Right next to my Tsinghua University and long since torn down.<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Gobi desert<\/span>, China:<\/span> First camel ride and tea, but not at the same time \ud83d\ude42<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Inner Mongolia<\/span>, China:<\/span>\u00a0Steppe landscape. Sleeping in a yurt, watching my fellow students try out Mongolian wrestling, afterwards tea and more B\u00e1iji\u01d4 (\u767d\u9152) = a type of Chinese liquor we drank<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    • Yangon, Myanmar:<\/span>\u00a0Three-week backpacker tour with a friend through Myanmar (formerly Burma). New Year\u2019s Day 2015. We visited the Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon, the symbol of Myanmar. A local TV program treated us to lunch with tea as their good deed for the year. A very warm ambiance among Buddhists. The new year had a delightful, heartfelt beginning!<\/span><\/li>\n
    • Nyaung Shwe, Myanmar:<\/span>\u00a0ViewPoint EcoLodge \u2013 thoughtfully designed accommodation. Burmese-French breakfast and gourmet cuisine in the Shan Restaurant near Inle Lake.<\/span><\/li>\n
    • Varanasi, India:<\/span>\u00a0Masala chai (black tea, milk, sugar and a mix of spices) with Baba and my Indian brother, Raju (not technically related, but a deep inner connection)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      • San Francisco, USA:<\/span>\u00a0Japanese Tea Garden in Golden Gate Park.<\/span><\/li>\n
      • NYC, USA:<\/span>\u00a0EN Japanese Brasserie (once known as ZEN, which seems to me a better name, and featuring fantastic food, by the way!)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

        • Iceland:<\/span>\u00a0Tea in the middle of nature: Gullfoss waterfall, glaciers, geysers<\/span><\/li>\n
        • Cinque Terre, Italy:<\/span>\u00a0Tea by the sea after we walked through all five coastal towns (12 km) in a single day<\/span><\/li>\n
        • Munich:<\/span> Tushita Teehaus (my latest discovery)<\/span><\/li>\n
        • Paris:<\/span> Buddha Bar Paris, tea instead of cocktails<\/span><\/li>\n
        • Berlin:<\/span>\n

          • Green tea caf\u00e9 Mamecha, Kame or macha-macha (relaxing oasis with matcha latte and onigiri<\/span>)<\/span><\/li>\n
          • Afternoon tea in Hotel de Rome during the period leading up to Christmas (nearly an annual ritual with a friend)<\/span><\/li>\n
          • Breakfast with friends from high school at various locations in Berlin<\/span><\/li>\n
          • Spontaneous tea picnics<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
          • Usedom:\u00a0<\/span>In a wicker beach chair with tea from Nepal, facing the Baltic Sea<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
